Phillip Hutchings

From early childhood Phillip has been enthusiastic about drawing and creating pictures. After leaving Kings Norton Grammar School he was offered an apprenticeship at a commercial Artist’s studio and also attended the Birmingham College of Art. Later he worked at an advertising agency and then had a successful management career in the offset lithograph industry printing packaging, books, magazines and newspapers.

In 2002, at the age of 67, Phillip decided to return to his artistic roots and attended a Fine Arts course at Wiltshire College to launch his ambition to become a full time visual artist.

His work has since been exhibited in numerous venues in and around Salisbury and he also has gained commissions for Portraits, Landscapes and Seascapes. His favourite media are Oil on canvas or Pastel and is currently developing his range of subjects to include Buildings, Still Life and Abstract work. Phillip’s approach to his outdoor work is to gather enough research material of a chosen subject to be able to create a series of paintings in an attempt to capture the intrinsic changes of light, colour and atmosphere made by the weather, time of day and season.
